NOTICE OF UPCOMING “PLACES WE WORSHIP” EXHIBIT

  • EXHIBIT DATES: August 20-September 23, 2010
  • OPENING RECEPTION: August 20, 2010
  • PLACE: Beverly and Sam Ross Gallery, Christian Brothers University
  • EXHIBIT: “PLACES WE WORSHIP”

It was decided at a meeting with Brother Robert that this would be the name of the exhibit. The images that we would like would be those things that inspire. It could be the whole structure or any portion thereof that causes you to stop and reflect or that bring you to your maker.

SPECIFICATIONS:
The show will be black and white. The final images will be of a single size 12 x 18 inches, either in a horizonal or vertical format. (The outside finished frames will have a dimension of 20 x 24 inches) Matting and framing of the images will be done by CBU and the finished prints will become the property of the University and made a part of their permanent collection.

CONTENT:
This will be primarily structures or parts thereof that are in the Memphis area. You will not be limited to the outside of the building or the whole of the building itself. Rather it should be something that you see that moves you toward inspiration. A Steeple, stained glass window, Chalice setting on the altar etc.
The selected artists will be asked to provide a curriculum vitae for a proposed booklet to go with the exhibit. The booklet will also contain educational data relevant to the image. When you are doing your photography please take notes as to the Name, location, age of the church, and anything else that would qualify. i.e.: If the church had a purpose during the Yellow fever epidemic, or played a role in history such as the Clayborn Temple. If need be we can get some help from the Memphis Heritage people.

DATES TO REMEMBER: April 1, 2010 final date for submission of images
The prints may be submitted for the initial jurying process  either as a 12 x 18 inch size or smaller if desired (for example a 6 x 9 inch image printed on 8.5 x 11 inch photo paper). The Club will return submitted prints to the individual artists for final printing of the images chosen for the show. Up to six (6) images may be submitted for jurying.

JURYING: will be done by non MCC members
